Policy Briefing Series — US-China Trade War: Get the Facts

Join the Washington State China Relations Council for a Policy Briefing Series titled “US-China Trade War: Get the Facts” with featured speakers Robert Hamilton and Andrew Batson.

Robert Hamilton has advised Washington governors on international trade issues and federal trade legislation for two decades. He serves as the state’s lead in collaborating with federal officials in defending state programs, which have been challenged under international trade agreements, including the WTO cases involving subsidies for Boeing. As Chair of the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (IGPAC), he provides state and local government views on international trade agreements to the United States Trade Representative. In his role on IGPAC, Robert Hamilton reviews U.S. negotiating proposals to evaluate the potential exposure of state laws and regulations to legal challenge. Prior to working for the state, Robert Hamilton worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce, where he focused on the administration of U.S. fair trade laws and trade with countries of the former Soviet Union.

Andrew is director of China research at the independent research firm Gavekal Dragonomics. He manages its team of researchers in Beijing, writes and comments on the Chinese economy, and frequently speaks to business and academic audiences. Andrew is also a nonresident senior fellow at the Paulson Institute, the Chicago-based think tank. Andrew has been working on China since 1998, and before joining Gavekal in 2011 was an award-winning reporter for The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires in Beijing and Hong Kong. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and educated at Reed College in Portland, Oregon.
