POLICY BRIEFING SERIES: U.S.-China-Japan Trade Relations in the New World Order

Please join the WSCRC for a panel discussion of U.S.-China-Japan trade relations. This event is jointly hosted by the WSCRC and the Japan-America Society of the State of Washington.

Expert panelists include Nor Coquillard, President of Cargill Japan (1989-1997) and Cargill China (1998-2009), Lori Otto Punke, President of the Washington Council on International Trade, Tom Robertson, Vice President and Deputy General Council of Microsoft, and John Melin, President and COO of Brown and Haley.

Discussion will be moderated by Sean Connell, Director of Business Development and Global Competitiveness at the Economic Development Alliance of Skagit County.

Clare Petrich, Commissioner of the Port of Tacoma, and Ryan Calkins, Commissioner of the Port of Seattle, will provide welcome and closing remarks.

The panel will discuss three questions:

-What approaches would offer Washington businesses and other stakeholders the greatest opportunities related to
China and Japan along with their regional supply chains?
-What are the implications for seaports, maritime security, and logistics management?
-Which policy options may not be advantageous, or potentially have a negative impact on Washington State?
