A Rapid Response Discussion on the Coronavirus & Global Health Emergencies

The outbreak and rapid spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) has created a humanitarian disaster in China and spread fear in many other countries. Join the Washington State China Relations Council and the World Affairs Council on February 13 for a rapid response panel discussion on the local, national, and global responses to epidemics like coronavirus. A panel of experts who have experience in both the SARS and Ebola crises will share their insights on major questions surrounding the coronavirus, such as has the virus peaked, how global institutions address pandemics, and specifically what resources King County and Washington State are mobilizing to effectively combat the virus. Other points to be discussed include whether the current travel bans, and other adopted measures are effective and how do we rationally respond to epidemics.

Panelists include Dr. Ann Marie Kimball, an epidemiologist, Senior Consulting Fellow at the Chatham House Royal Institute of Foreign Affairs and a Strategic Consultant in Global Health at the Rockefeller Foundation, Dennis Worsham, Prevention Division Director of the Seattle & King County Public Health, and Gabrielle Fitzgerald, President and CEO of Panorama Global. Jeff Hall, Deputy Director at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Global Policy & Advocacy Division, will serve as the moderator.
